The rocky outcroppings in the Pacific Ocean make for incredible scenery, and are also home to many thriving seabird colonies. Visit here in the summer for the best chance to see Tufted Puffins.

East of the Cascades, the land becomes dry, the sun intense, and the views endless. Here you can search the skies for Golden Eagles and the scour the sage brush for California Quail.

Within a short, 2-hour drive from downtown Portland you can be walking on a glacier near Timberline Lodge to look for Gray-crowned Rosy-finch, Blue Grouse, and Ruffed Grouse.
